What slop means
Slop originally meant pig feed, the bucket of leftovers poured into a trough. The internet borrowed it for anything that feels made to be consumed without thinking: endless reality shows, algorithm bait, fast food, and especially AI-generated images and articles, which got their own term, AI slop.
These days slop works like a suffix. You put a group's name in front of it to describe the stuff that group supposedly consumes without question.
The slop family
AI slop means low-effort AI-generated content. Goyslop is processed junk food. Foidslop is female-coded media and food. The meme chart foidslop came from also has guychow, guyslop and wifeslop, and fandom has hetslop. People say all of them with some contempt, though foidslop in particular has picked up a fond, self-mocking use.
How AI slop got its name
Slop as a word for low-quality AI output caught on in 2024, when programmers and writers started using it for the AI-generated images, articles and product listings that were filling up search results and social feeds. It worked because it named something people had already noticed: content made in bulk, by machines, mainly to get clicks.
Slop used to be a fringe insult, and that's when it became an ordinary word. Newspapers started using it without quotation marks, and it became easy to stick a prefix on and make a new one. That's the background for most of the words in this glossary.
