People posted their own plates, which ranged from a sad slice of cheese to elaborate spreads, and restaurants and grocery chains started putting girl dinner on menus and in ads. It had critics too. Some dietitians said that a plate of snacks passed off as a meal could make under-eating look cute, especially for teenagers watching. Others said the opposite, that it was just a funny name for the low-effort dinners people living alone have always eaten. Boy dinner showed up as the reply, and it usually meant something like a can of chili eaten over the stove.
